JENNY ROLFE-HERBERT
Perception Collaborative Installation
Jenny Rolfe-Herbert works with members of the local community at New Horizons Community Centre in Pollards Hill to re-imagine and reinvent a small Germanic-style hut prior to its demolition. Basing the artwork on the fairytale of Hansel and Gretel, the collaborators use language and text, sweets and wood to create both temporary and semi-permanent installations on and around the building.
Jenny Rolfe-Herbert's work explores the way we view, record and experience place. She creates site specific text works that describe sounds, smells, light, atmosphere etc as way of holding a memory of everyday places. Displaying the work directly at the related location, she hopes to encourage the viewer to question how they experience place, while at the same time visually altering the appearance of the space.
Exploring the notion of reality, ‘Perception’ takes you out of your everyday environment and into an imagined space. Presented with a childhood fantasy you are offered a new experience of the park and new ways of perceiving the parks identity.
