Guide to Tree Climbing Booklet
A study of six trees in Wandle Park: Ruth Martindale draws trees as a way of finding routes for the eye to ascend, creating a handwritten book that applies an aesthetic of Wainwright’s guides and mountain conquests to the suburban landscape of Colliers Wood, proposing a conceptual adventuring for our highly Health and Safety conscious era.
Ruth Martindale is an artist based in London. Her work investigates process and making, and the history and stories of places, materials and objects. Her installations consider the relationship between man-made objects and their natural origins, whilst presenting objects that hover between functionality and uncanny artefacts. The drawings create a narrative that relates to a place: its history, myths and uses.
